One of the most helpful new items is the Maser Gun. This electric weapon is specifically designed to incapacitate MULEs and Terrorists without killing them. Players who have ventured into Kojima’s apocalyptic future know how important it is to avoid killing any of Sam’s enemies, so this gun comes in handy. Here’s how to get it.

How to Get the Maser Gun
While getting the Maser Gun is relatively simple, the game does not go out of its way to explain the process to Sam. The gun is available once Sam reaches the Distribution Center West of Capitol Knot City, and will require him to begin the new quest tied to the Director’s Cut.
How to Begin the New Director’s Cut Mission
The order connected to the Maser Gun is issued as Order 77, which can be confusing, given that it is issued at the same time as Order 9. This can lead the player to think they are not prepared to accept Order 77, but rest assured, any player can easily complete this section of the new mission. Again, this mission will be issued at the Distribution Center West of Capital Knot City.
The new mission is broken down into several sections, so Sam can accept Order 77 without worrying about being forced to complete the entire new mission at that time. Much of the new mission content will not make sense to players who have not completed the main story, so it is advisable that players wait until doing so to complete the Director’s Cut story.
How to Reach the Ruined Factory
Sam will be tasked with retrieving items from a terrorist postbox in the ruined factory directly above the Ludens Fan shelter. Interacting with Ludens Fan is not required to progress the story, so Sam may not have discovered his shelter yet. If this is the case, use the above map to help Sam get his bearings.
Ludens Fan’s shelter sits on a large ledge in the middle of a steep incline. Behind his shelter is a trail that Sam can follow to reach the ruined shelter. Make sure to use the odradek to scan the area. If completing the mission in the early section of the game, Sam will not have certain tools at his disposal, so make sure to look for moving orange item labels, this will signify the location of terrorists.
Look out for the tall grass as Sam approaches the top of the hill, this will let him know there are enemies in the area he must hide from.
Once Sam reaches the ruined factory, he will see a pit that acts as an entrance to the underground area where the postbox is located. Watch for the enemies in this chamber. There will be one standing directly in front of the postbox, and though it will be tempting to take him out immediately, his buddy will see the whole thing. Take him out silently, and then head for the enemy in front of the postbox. Loot the items and return them to the distribution center to complete the mission.
Tips for Completing Order 77
If Sam is completing Order 77 when it is first issued, use the following tactics:
The key word here is stealth. Sam will have virtually no weapons at this early stage in the game, so he will have to rely on his fists and his porter strand. Bring several items that Sam will not care to lose. Do not pick up the cases dropped by the terrorists and use them for attacks. When knocked out, these terrorists will drop items that can be very useful to Sam this early in the game. Using them to attack other terrorists will result in the cases and their content being destroyed. Use items that can be fabricated as weapons. Use the sandalweed sandals to avoid making noise with Sam’ footsteps. The terrorists are usually in pairs, so make sure that a terrorists partner is not watching when Sam takes them out.
To use the strand as a weapon to incapacitate enemies, simply walk up behind them with the strand engaged. To do this, hold down L2. If Sam is not doing this, then the prompt to bind an enemy will not show up.
Use the Firing Range to Practice with the Maser Gun
Around the same time that Order 77 becomes available, Die-Hardman will inform Sam that he has access to a firing range. Here, Sam can practice with Death Stranding’s unique weapons.
While it’s not extremely complicated, Sam will be much better accustomed to the Maser Gun if he practices with it first. Instead of a projectile, the Maser Gun shoots an arc of electricity at enemies. Because of this, the range of the weapons is not the best, so learning the weapons limits at the firing range is recommended.
