The official twitter account for Kojima Productions, the team behind Death Stranding, offered the simple message for everyone to look out for incoming news about the game this Wednesday, May 29. The announcement ends with the message “Create the rope,” a term game creator Hideo Kojima has used at length in various interviews pertaining to the concept behind Death Stranding.

It seems as though a new trailer could be likely, however Kojima himself did appear to tease a release window of 2019 for Death Stranding earlier this year. With Sony’s approach the past couple of years with waiting to announce release dates for major titles (such as God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and Detroit: Become Human), the time between now and the holiday season is prime for a possible release date to be set.

There are a ton of other factors which may also hint at a release date coming this Wednesday. With PlayStation 5 not launching until after the 2019 fiscal year and other exclusives like The Last of Us: Part 2 confirmed to not be exclusive to PS5, an earlier release for Death Stranding would be in both Sony and Kojima Productions’ best interest, so as to not launch in close proximity to either Naughty Dog’s post-apocalyptic sequel or Sucker Punch Productions’ Ghosts of Tsushima.

This isn’t the first time a major announcement for a Sony exclusive title had been expected before E3 either. Last year, Sony opted to make a handful of smaller announcements the week before its E3 press conference, which focused heavily on its aforementioned upcoming PS4 exclusives. A few major announcements from that week included the then-release date for Sony Bend’s Days Gone, and the reveal of Tetris Effect. While Sony won’t be at E3 in a couple weeks, this doesn’t mean a major announcement for one of PS4’s most anticipated titles is off the table.

Death Stranding is currently is development for PlayStation 4.
