So we would have had two weeks since Chelsea‘s last game against Atletico Madrid by the time we are ready to face QPR on Saturday. We all know what happened in Monaco and have our concerns with the way we were ripped apart defensively.
I just want to know what you people think is Chelsea’s strongest back four now at the club and for the hostile atmosphere this weekend at Loftus Road?
We have now signed Cesar Azpilicueta who is a Spanish International to boost our ranks and to give Branislav much needed competition. Ryan Bertrand has proven that he can cut it at first team level and is now pushing Ashley Cole for a start at right back.
In the middle as we all know, we have John Terry, Branislav Ivanovic, David Luiz and Gary Cahill. The question remains at the moment as to who is our strongest two in the middle?
Who deserves to start and who would you class as our “strongest” these days?
I personally think at the moment at full back Cole and Ivanovic are ahead of the other two at the moment. Azpilicueta will be pushing Ivanovic but will need time to bed in and adapt to the Premier League.
So that leaves us with the two in the middle. For me JT starts because let’s face it, when he isn’t there it never the same. We lack his leadership, his positional sense and his presence. At times against Atletico we looked all over the place and I believe that we need him there organising and giving people bollockings to make sure they are doing their defensive work for the team.
The final place in the back four next to John Terry in my view goes to Gary Cahill. I believe that Cahill is from the same mould as JT. He lives for clean sheets and you can see during games as he celebrates tackles being won or saves being made!.
In addition to that he is also a voice at the back and has been ever since he came to Chelsea. It’s so important to have someone like that there, in some games people need a jolt or a kick up the arse and Cahill is more than willing to give it to people.
So that’s my choice going forward and for QPR next weekend:
Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry(c), Cole.
Like I said, QPR will be a hostile atmosphere and Chelsea will need cool heads in this one. It’s important to sort out our defensive base to build from as Mark Hughes will be only too aware of just how easily Atletico beat us.
What do you people think? Do you agree with me going forward and for QPR this weekend?
